Markings, ink, red, stamped, "7.62 [Chinese characters translated 'Ordinary (Iron)']/ 56 [Chinese character translated 'Style']/ 20 [Chinese character translated 'Shots']." Packet likely held 20 cartridges for the Chinese Type 56 Assault Rifle, a copy of the AK-47 Kalashnikov.
History Stubbe, a native of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, served as a Navy chaplain with the 9th Amphibious Brigade, 26th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division during the Vietnam War. He later founded the Khe Sanh Veterans Association, becoming the preeminent researcher and documenter of those who served at Khe Sanh.
