The style of shirt and belt buckle indicate the soldier is a Wisconsin Union solider, probably from the 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th or 8th Wisconsin Infantry Regiments, all of which were issued gray uniforms at the start of the war. Included with the ambrotype is a case and a frame. The case features a Union flag on the front. The ambrotype has been removed from its original case for preservation purposes, the case has been included in the collection.
