Color slides and assorted manuscripts pertaining to Paul G. Dunwiddie, a Janesville, Wisconsin, resident who served with the 7th Battalion, 11th Field Artillery stationed at Tay Ninh during the Vietnam War. The majority of the collection is color slides taken by Dunwiddie while serving during the war. The slides are organized according to their original arrangement in two different slide carousels. Included are images of helicopters, the base at Tay Ninh, some scenery, local residents, fellow soldiers, and Dunwiddie. The slides from carousel A pertain mainly to the base at Tay Ninh, and generally depict everyday activities, images of the mascot dog for his unit, and the perimeter at night. Carousel B features landscapes and some soldiers in the field, along with images from his rest and relaxation in Sidney, Australia. Also included are slides of Dunwiddie with his family prior to leaving for Vietnam, his graduation from school in 1966, and a few slides from his return home after his service. Loose slides are similar to those found in the carousels, but were not originally organized with them. Manuscripts are photocopies of a few notes Dunwiddie sent home. Most of the notes provide descriptive details of the slides, but are not in the order they were in the carousels. After the war, Dunwiddie returned to Wisconsin and eventually graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder and eventually moved to Washington state.
