|Description||Assorted papers and a photograph pertaining to the service of Guy R. Roberts, a Stevens Point, Wisconsin, resident who served as a pilot with the 304th Fighter Squadron, 348th Fighter Group, 5th Air Force during World War II. Papers include a newspaper clipping from a local Stevens Point newspaper that gives an account of Roberts' first aerial combat victory. The article was written from a letter that Roberts sent to his family that described shooting down a Japanese fighter. A photocopy of his obituary is also included. The black and white photograph is a portrait of Roberts wearing his Army Air Forces uniform. Roberts flew 223 missions in the Pacific Theater during World War II, and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. He retired from the Air Force in 1964 with the rank of lieutenant colonel, moved to Appleton, Wisconsin, where he was a member of American Legion Post 38.|
