|Description||Cabinet card and copy photograph of a chalk drawing of William Dempster Hoard, a Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin resident who served as a musician in the 4th Wisconsin Infantry Regiment and the 1st New York Artillery Regiment during the Civil War. The cabinet card depicts Hoard in civilian clothes with a GAR pin. The photograph is of a chalk drawing of the same image. William Dempster was born in Stockbridge, New York and moved to Wisconsin in 1857 before enlisting in 1861. He was discharged from the 4th Wisconsin Infantry Regiment in 1862 on disability. Later he briefly served in the 1st New York Artillery regiment before returning to Wisconsin in 1865. He became active in Wisconsin politics and served as governor from 1889 to 1891.The cabinet card was taken by F.W. Curtiss in Madison, Wisconsin.|
