Certificate pertaining to the service of George P. Mongan, a Milwaukee, Wisconsin, resident who was wounded while serving in World War I. The certificate features Columbia as a woman bestowing honor on a soldier. The certificate was the work of artist E.H. Blashfield and is entitled "Columbia Gives To Her Son The Accolades of the New Chivalry of Humanity." Mongan enlisted in 1917 and was attached to the 125th Ambulance Company during the war. He was severely wounded around October 10, 1918, likely while fighting during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive.
