|Description||Letters pertaining to the service of Ronald A. Nelson, a Madison, Wisconsin, resident who served in the Marine Corps soon after the end of World War II. The letters were written by Nelson to his mother over the duration of his service. They describe his basic training at Paris Island (1946), and his deployment to the Mediterranean Sea twice (1948-1949). He describes daily activities while training and deployed at sea, his thoughts on his platoon members, and gives his opinions on Italy, France, and North Africa. Nelson enlisted in the Marines in 1946 and was discharged in 1949. He returned to Wisconsin after his service and settled in Milwaukee.|
