|Description||Scattered papers and photographs relating to the service of Jeanne M. Christie, a Madison native, during the Vietnam War. Christie joined the American Red Cross in 1967 and went to Vietnam as part of the Supplemental Recreational Activities Overseas (S.R.A.O.) unit, which oversaw recreational activities at bases and occasionally visited troops in the field. Materials consist largely of photocopied papers and include several letters Christie wrote home while in Vietnam. These letters described her everyday activities, such as visiting wounded soldiers, and surrounding environments. Some orientation materials document the information the Red Cross gave to S.R.A.O. personnel upon entering Vietnam. Other materials relate to Christie's post-war life and her efforts to gain recognition for the role of women in America's wars, particularly Vietnam. Photocopied articles and newspaper stories highlight women's contributions. Photographs include shots of Christie and other S.R.A.O. personnel in Red Cross uniforms in Vietnam, as well as scenic shots from Nha Trang and Da Nang, where she spent the majority of her time overseas. The videocassette contains recorded segments of television presentations and personal recordings from the Vietnam War.|
